Selection Criteria

Applicants for American Osteopathic Association (AOA) approved internship training shall be graduates of AOA accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine. Intern recruitment follows the policies and procedures of the AOA Intern Registration Program.

Applicants for residency training shall be graduates of AOA accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine and shall have completed an AOA approved internship.

Applicants for residency training shall be members of the AOA and shall maintain membership during their specialty training.

Applicants for residency training must have passed COMLEX parts I and II, inclusive of the PE examination.

Applicants for residency training must apply through the Osteopathic Match (NMS) for first year positions.

The resident must have an appropriate training license consistent with state and local requirements. It is the responsibility of the respective training institution to ensure appropriate licensure of residents.

The resident must complete the required minimum number of years in an osteopathic program as stipulated in the basic standards of the respective specialty affiliate before qualifying to take subspecialty training in either an AOA approved or ACGME accredited training program.

Each Osteopathic Post Training Institute (OPTI) site will develop its own particular program specific selection process. Each program will forward the program specific information to TUMEC for inclusion in its web based catalog.
